Assistant Principals

Dr. Emorie Griffin

I am elated to serve as one of the Assistant Principals for Capital City Alternative School. Here at CCAS we strive to offer a high level of education supports to all scholars. I am firm believer that given the correct learning environment, any scholar can succeed. Therefore, one of my personal goals at CCAS is to ensure all scholars are provided with an equitable education as well as equipping them with social emotional learning skills that will empower them to be better scholars while at CCAS and when they transition to his/her homeschool.

I earned my Bachelor's degree from Jackson State University in Elementary Education and a minor in Mathematics.  I also received by Masters degree in School Counseling and Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College. Lastly, I earned my Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College. Therefore, I am an advocate for pursing education and I aim to instill that in each of the scholars at CCAS.

As a former JPS teacher and counselor at CCAS, I have a heart for our scholars. I am dedicated to extending all support available to ensure their success!

Dwayne Harris

My name is Dwayne Harris and I serve as the assistant principal of Capital City Alternative School. I am a proud graduate of Jackson State University where I received both my bachelor's and master's degrees. I have always had a passion for learning and educating scholars.

As the assistant principal my goal is to ensure that every scholar is provided a high level of instruction and social skills daily.

I am committed and dedicated to the scholars and staff of Capital City Alternative School. Together we provide a safe, orderly, clean, and tailored learning environment for all our scholars.

Shelby Rutland

Greetings I am Mr. Shelby Rutland. As a native of Jackson, MS and a graduate of Forest Hill High School I am dedicated to improving the education of all Jackson Public School scholars. Education has always been my career choice and goals in my life. I graduated from Mississippi State with a degree in History and began my career as a high school History teacher. I also was the head baseball coach for Murrah High School and a defensive football coordinator for over 10 years. Therefore, I understand the importance of discipline, hard work and sacrifice to achieve all goals. I have previous been an assistant principal at both Forest Hill High School and Whitten Middle School.

I am excited to be part of the amazing Capital City Alternative School team.  Focusing on improving the academic and behavior needs of our scholars is one of my top priorities at CCAS as one of the assistant principals. My motto is, "Toady we follow, tomorrow we lead."
